VACUUM
EXCAVATION which is described as using Vacuum to safely uncover
underground utilities to verify the paint marks without damage.
It
is common to use high-pressure water and/or air to dislodge the soil for
easy removal by the vacuum system.
Many
municipalities and government agencies no longer rely on the paint
marks and by now require all contractors to either hand dig or vacuum excavate the utility, not allowing a backhoe to
perform this task. Because a backhoe, will in a large percentage of the
time, damage the utility anyway.
